About

Coach Lindsay, BCBA, MPEd, PN1

I have always been curious about human behavior and why we do the things we do. This curiosity drove me to seek education in Psychology and Behavioural Neuroscience (BSc Honours, 2015) and career choices within ABA (since 2013). After graduating with a Masters in Professional Education (specialized in Applied Behavior Analysis) by August 2022, I still had about 1500 experience hours to complete while working part-time as an in-home Behavior Consultant with families of autistic children in my local area. I took a longer, non-conventional route than most on my journey towards becoming a BCBA to stay true to my values of being an ethical and compassionate clinician. I learned to not compare my journey to others, maintain healthy habits, and stretch my comfort zone by connecting with like-minded professionals online and obtaining certifications/knowledge outside of ABA.

I remember in one of my last grad school classes being intrigued by Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and eager to learn more about it. So that's exactly what I did after graduating. From Sept. - Dec. 2022, I read ACT articles, took CEUs, and applied it to myself. This was a turning point in my career, where I realized that health was very important to me... not just maintaining my health, but educating others on how to proactively improve their health in a meaningful and sustainable way. So I started taking messy action towards this by first asking BCBA colleagues about supervision within health/fitness, researching potential supervisors, and finally securing a BCBA supervisor within this subspecialty!

From February 2023 - May 2023, I gained supervision within heath/fitness by meeting with ABA grad students and BCBAs online to help them build sustainable healthy habits, such as drinking water regularly, moving their body daily (in their preferred way), maintaining high protein intake, and eating balanced meals regularly. Not only was this experience in line with my value of health, but it also helped improve my confidence and allowed me to complete my experience hours sooner!

“Progress, not perfection.”

As a past over-achiever and perfectionistic full of anxiety, I have shifted to messy action and slowing down to appreciate the little things. This is the motto I live by today and encourage my clients to also strive for progress one step at a time rather than approaching their goals with an all-or-nothing mindset.
